Student Visa Application Checklist

Securing a student visa is a crucial part of this process, and we are here to help you navigate the requirements seamlessly. Below is a comprehensive checklist for the Germany student visa application to ensure you have all the necessary documents for a successful application.
Essential Documents for Your Germany Student Visa Application
To apply for a German student visa, you will need the following documents:
Valid Passport
- Issued within the last 10 years.
- Must have at least 2 empty pages.
Visa Application Form
- Completed and signed application form.
- Declaration in accordance with Section 54 of the Residence Act, duly signed (2 copies).
Declaration for Additional Contact and Legal Representation
- Declaration form completed (2 copies).
Biometric Passport Photos
- 3 current, identical passport-sized photos.
Copy of Passport’s Data Page
- A4 size copy of the passport’s data page (2 copies).
APS Certificate
- Mandatory unless one of the following conditions apply:
- Non-German degree obtained in Germany.
- PhD/Post Doc studies in Germany.
- Scholarship/stipend from German or EU public funds.
- Studies based on a non-Indian school graduation certificate or non-Indian degree.
- Mandatory unless one of the following conditions apply:
Letter of Admission
- From a German university, preparatory college (Studienkolleg), or registration for a language course.
- Should include confirmation of the language of instruction and if a non-German degree will be awarded.
Proof of Financial Means
- To cover the costs of your studies through one of the following:
- Proof of a “Sperrkonto” (blocked account) with sufficient funds for the first year, currently €11,208, and confirmation of a maximum withdrawal of €934 per month.
- “Verpflichtungserklärung” (formal obligation letter) from a sponsor in Germany.
- Proof of a German/EU scholarship or stipend.
- Note: From 01 September 2024, the required amount will be €11,904 with a maximum monthly withdrawal of €992.
- To cover the costs of your studies through one of the following:
Proof of Previous Academic Qualifications
- Bachelor Studies: University Degrees (if applicable), Diploma Certificate, Mark Sheets, 12th and 10th Mark Sheets.
- Master Studies: Bachelor’s Degree, other University Degrees if applicable, Diploma Certificate.
- PhD/Post Doc: Master’s Degree, other University Degrees if applicable.
Current Proof of Language Proficiency
- In German or English, depending on the language of instruction.
- Not older than 1 year.
- English: TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Assessment English.
- German: Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, ÖSD, TestDAF, DSH.
Proof of Tuition/Study Fees Payment
- If applicable, proof of payment of tuition/study fees.
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Updated and relevant to your academic and professional background.
Motivation Letter / Statement of Purpose
- Duly signed, explaining your motivation for choosing the subject, studying in Germany, and the selected university.
Travel Health Insurance
- Coverage for the first 90 days starting from your intended date of entry into Germany.
Important Notes
- Prepare two identical sets of applications. Copies should be A4 size.
- On the day of your visa appointment, bring originals of all documents.
- The German Missions in India may request additional documents or verification of certificates, which could involve extra fees.
- The processing time for the application is typically six to eight weeks.
- Submission of the above documents does not guarantee visa approval. Incomplete documentation or failure to attend a visa interview may result in rejection. Providing false information or documents will lead to application denial.
